Some developments..

so good news!

after a year of being eligible i finally paid into SAG and am an official member. I signed up last friday and got my packet in the mail today! after a ton of deliberation i'm going to be using my first and middle name as my professional name in all things acting related. just another way to make it easier to remember and also keep my private life separate. not that that is a huge issue at the moment but you know. maybe more about having a separate identity, which i do think is important for actors, because, let's not lie, we are crazy bastards. so because of this i'm going to be using a different server for this blog. you can now find me at www.oohlalola.tumblr.com i'm still working out the kinks on that site and learning how to use it, so i'll parallel post on here for a few weeks until i am used to it and so anyone who reads this (all five of you and my parents) can adjust to this huge change in your lives. i'm sorry to cause any inconvenience or trauma.
i love you

Old Hollywood

Needs more Grace Kelly.

I need to get my butt down to SAG to FINALLY give them my $$ so that I can be an official member. I really hope we don't strike this summer.

And here are some things I have stolen from my friends because I think they are hilarious:

IMA KILL SOMEONE.

I keep having the most bizarre days and feeling so discombobulated.

Like my karma is messed up and unbalanced or something. Which is strange because I generally feel I have good karma.

Yesterday was by far the strangest day though.

As most people know, I work as a nanny to support myself. Right now I watch two kids, a girl, CR, who is 12 and a boy, EA, who is 6.

Yesterday afternoon I pick up CR at school in Hancock Park and drive to Weho where EA goes to school. We were about half an hour earlier so we decided to park about a block away from the school so CR could do her homework and I could read for a while. It's common for parents to wait in their car's near the school and I am used to seeing people waiting in their vehicles, and thought nothing of the woman sitting in the car in front of us.

After about 20 minutes of us sitting there, a cop car rolls by and the woman in the car ahead of us jumps out and flags him down. She begins yelling, "The woman sitting in the car behind me h as been following me since Van Nuys and she is stalking me and I'm really freaked out!"
At which point the cops turn back to look at my car, where CR and I are sitting, completely perplexed and confused. I roll down the window and calmly say, "I am sitting here because I'm waiting to pick up my kid at this school," and I point to the school.

The woman then says, "Well, she's been following me from Van Nuys!!" (Let me also add that this woman is near hysterical and has crazy-face in a serious way.)

I reply, "That's impossible, I live in Los Feliz and I just picked THIS CHILD WHO IS SITTING NEXT TO ME up at school in Hancock Park. There is no way I am following you. You are insane. I have a twelve year old in my car doing her homework. You don't make sense."

At this point the cops, and thankfully, CR are laughing at this insane woman. The cop says to me, "I told her you were too cute to be a crazy person!"

After a few more minutes of the cops trying to placate this obviously insane woman, CR and I turn the around to go pick up EA from his gym class.

CR wasn't as freaked out by the whole ordeal, but for some reason that crazy woman totally rattled me. I felt off about it the rest of the day.

le sigh.

Somedays, there is just too much crazy in Hollywood.

p.s. Did anyone notice the Hollywood sign is partially covered up by a banner? Dislike.

SLEEPY SUNDAY

I love doing nothing on a Sunday.
Sometimes it's nice to get lunch and/or go to a movie.
But sometimes it's nice to just lay in your robe all day like a crazy old lady and read, watch my tv, and snuggle with my Mae.

Yesterday afternoon I went to a showing at Mann's Chinese of a production of the play Nation by the National Theater in London. It's part of the NT Live program that broadcasts live performances of whatever play is in their repertory. This happens often with ballets and operas, but it's the first time that someone has broadcast a play, live, to cities all over the world.

It was really wonderful not only experience a play that I otherwise would not have been able to see, (since I don't live in London) but also to be a part of an artistic experiment that connected people from around the world.

This is the second play that has been broadcast, to my knowledge, and so far the response has been so positive that the National Theater wants to do it every month. I can't wait to see more.

The quality of the acting was really among the best I have seen, with really interesting choreography and music. It's based on a children's novel and was very movement-based, which always wins points with me. Movement-based children's theater is probably my favorite kind of performance because you so thoroughly have to suspend your disbelief and just jump in with them. And it takes a whole new level of commitment from the actors.

I will definitely be back to the NT Live program.

xo

p.s. In memory of the great J.D. Salinger, my favorite quote of his:

"If a girl looks swell when you meet her, who gives a damn if she's late? Nobody."

Love This Trick - Part 3

Carey Mullingan.

My new favorite.
I loved her in An Education and after reading an interview I realized she was in Pride and Prejudice so that finished winning me over.

This is her latest photoshoot for Elle UK.
